Ryu's three friends would all appear to be girls, including not just obviously Megumi and Kanna but also Rento. Yet Rento is referred to late in the film as "he" and "him" in what seems to be a mistaken translation or identification in the subtitles. Study Rento's clothing throughout the film and Rento is dressed like a girl, with feminine knee-high knickers, a low-cut top after swimming, generally feminine colors in her garb, a polka-dot blouse, and generally girlish facial characteristics.
