John Glenn, suited up and on his way to the spacecraft, is seen carrying his O2 and air conditioning case with his helmet visor up along with subsequent phone calls. This is incorrect as by fitting the suit and donning the helmet in the ready room the suit system is checked for leaks and the astronaut is put on 100% oxygen. The suit and helmet are secured from the ready room to the white room and into the spacecraft with the astronaut breathing oxygen to purge nitrogen from his body in order to prevent nitrogen bubbles forming (the bends) in the lower atmospheric pressure inside the capsule at altitude. Therefore, the visor is never raised and the astronaut never breathes outside air avoiding nitrogen contamination.
