At the farewell dinner for Lt. Sperling, the colonel proposes a toast to him, and tells his fellow officers to drain their glasses, "Air Force style". Immediately thereafter, Sperling rises to reply and proposes a toast, too. Now, however, all the glasses are seen to contain liquid (despite the fact that no mess waiter has refilled them).
