When Kapitän Herdt is killed, the blood on one side of his mouth is fresh (red) as opposed to the dark red blood on the other side of his mouth. Before being stabbed in the back, he had no blood on his face, therefore the blood - presumably from internal bleeding - should be the same colour (not dark red).
