When the Nostromo detonates at the end of the move, there is a shock wave felt by Narcissus. In the vacuum of space there would be no shock waves (which require matter as a medium). This explosion, however, comprises 20,000,000 tons of mineral ore and petrochemicals from the exploded refinery, which produced a gaseous shockwave felt by the Narcissus.
