Jigsaw's entire modus operandi is predicated on the idea that the person being forced to play his game learns something and changes their life. William is forced to go through one of Jigsaw's games, and he changes; however, it turns out that he didn't have any control over his fate after all because Harold Abbott's son, Brent, simply kills him at the end of the game. However, this can be explained by the fact that this test was created by Hoffman, whose plans were much more merciless and brutal than those of the first Jigsaw killer, since Hoffman's "games" required much heftier sacrifices and he often placed some of his victims in inescapable traps that were meant to just kill them without teaching anyone any lessons.
