Several Soviet political and military leaders in the film are shown wearing the 'Hero of the Soviet Union' medal on their chests. In the Soviet round-table scene at the beginning of the film, "Leonid Brezhnev" is seen with a single 'Hero' medal on the his jacket on the right side. Not only is Brezhnev wearing it on the wrong side of his jacket, he was awarded 3 of these medals during his premiership and should thus be wearing all three. Additionally, after Orlov is shot on the railway by border guards he mutters to General Gogol "...tomorrow I will be a Hero of the Soviet Union", Orlov already has a 'Hero of the Soviet Union' medal clearly displayed on his chest.
