During the shootout in the canyon, Lee Marvin's character has a revolver but it does not change to an automatic pistol in the same scene. He has a M1911 ACP tucked into his belt behind his left side, which he keeps his left hand on when he's talking to the bandit. When he tosses down his revolver with his right hand and the bandit is shot with an arrow by Woody Strode's character, he pulls the 1911 out from behind in his left hand.
