When young Ellie gets up early at night to make another CQ call, she just turns on the transceiver and starts talking. The rig she's using has power amplifier tubes. Before you go on the air you have to go through a series of steps to be assured your 'on frequency' and not causing interference from a badly tuned transmission. Also, you could burn out the tubes if not properly tuned.
