One of the TV reports on the arrival of the aliens and the associated phenomenon claims the "Southern Hemisphere [is] not affected". According to the "War of 1996" site released to promote Independence Day - Rigenerazione, two of the spaceships were deployed over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and over Jakarta, Indonesia. Both cities are in the Southern Hemisphere, so there is not way that the phenomenon would not affect the Southern Hempishere. The site also had São Paulo, Brazil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kinshasa, Zaire, Nairobi, Kenya, Cape Town, South Africa, Perth, Australia and Sydney, Australia (the last of these being depicted at the end of this film) as targeted cities; all of these are in the Southern Hemisphere.
