The operation of the shotgun is misrepresented multiple times. When Zak fires it the first time, he's thrown back through the air several feet. No shotgun has a recoil that powerful. If it did, Zak would've suffered serious injuries from a blow that powerful. Later, when Tyler is teaching him to shoot, he aims and fires without properly resting the stock of the gun against his shoulder. No experienced shooter would teach someone to fire this way as it too would cause injury. It is very likely that in both instances the actions were played for laughs (over-the-top recoil and "bada**" holding a shotgun).
