Texas Rangers don't travel together as partners. Each Ranger is assigned to a company, then stationed at a particular town in the company's area. (With a few larger cities having two or more Rangers). Therefore, Marcus and Alberto wouldn't have been riding together, or even stationed in the same town, which means Alberto wouldn't have been with Marcus on the stakeout, nor been with him to get shot and killed.
