The Legionaries helmet and armor are the style use in the 1st Century AD particularly the the segmented torso armor. During this time, soldiers wore chain mail over a dark red wool tunics so as not to show blood. Caesar and other officers are shown wearing protective lower leg wear called greaves that were used by Greek Hoplite soldiers of the Alexander the Great era centuries before.
