When Nick is in the Colonel's room and putting out a cigarette in an ashtray on the night table; Nora is standing a bit away on his left side. However in the next cut; the orientation of where Nick and Nora are standing changes. Nora is now touching Nick and both are closer to the night table. Then in the next cut after the colonel dismisses his family the orientation changes again. There is a gap again between them; and then Nora moves closer to Nick.
