After Howard shoots the subway driver and Annie starts panicking, Howard takes the bomb remote control out of her hands so she doesn't accidentally let go of the trigger. But when he grabs it, he very clearly depresses the trigger, meaning Annie did indeed let go, yet the bomb didn't go off.
