When the ground crew and medics remove the dead bombardier from the nose of Lt Archer's plane at the end of the first mission, we hear the distinctive sound of glass breaking as they open the nose. The clear portions of the nose of a B-17 or any bomber are made of plexiglas, a plastic which makes an entirely different sound when broken.
