At the conclusion of the final battle, it's shown that only three people survived of the garrison, Susanna Dickinson, her daughter, and a black child. Though sources differ, as many as 15 women and children survived the battle and were interviewed by Gen. Santa Anna afterwards. A single defender, Brigido Guerrero, a Mexican army deserter whom defected to the Texian cause, also survived by convincing Santa Anna's men that he was a prisoner of the Texians.
