When Spock decides not to kill Sybok, he is seemingly contradicting everything that is commonly known about Vulcans. He said during Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." He also, supposedly, does not have any emotional attachment to Sybok. Thus, killing Sybok should have been second nature for Spock.
