When even a single bomb is detonated, Graboids are hurt by the sound and must flee, making a squeal and leaving a dust trail. It is also stated that the rocks amplify sounds of things on top of them. But in the final scenes when everyone is stuck on the rock, trying to 'fish' for the final Graboid, all but one of the remaining bombs are detonated on top of the rock, resulting in the biggest explosion in the film, however this time it doesn't seem to have the same effect on the Graboid. This is because that particular Graboid got smart and threw the bomb at the rock from a significant distance (all other bombs were detonated in a very close proximity to the Graboids), and probably got even further away before the bombs started to explode (and then circled back). It may also be the case that it did squeal in pain, but the explosions obscured that sound.
