Hank Palmer finds his Metallica t-shirt in his childhood room. However, Sam subsequently states that he dressed this t-shirt in the night in which he left Carlinville. Later in the movie, it is said that Hank left his hometown, he never came back until his mother passed away.So, he should not find it in his childhood house. T-shirt should be in Hank's house which is in Chicago.
