If you look closely just before the rock hits the windshield of the helicopter, there is a blemish of some sort the exact same size/shape/location as the center of broken area after the rock hits. This is most likely the squib or pyrotechnic used to break the plastic, and simulate a rock striking/breaking the windshield.
