When the terminator first handles the mini grenade launcher, it is unloaded and makes a 'plonk' sound when the barrel is snapped shut. This is the sound an empty tube makes.
In all later appearances, this weapon is re-loaded, and should not have been been able to repeat the 'plonk' sound because the tube was no longer empty. The sound is made when snapping the barrel open, and when closing it. Same applies- there is a round (live or spent) in the barrel which would inhibit the 'plonk' sound.
