The conflicting story about Nick's whereabouts at the time of Amy's disappearance are not actually conflicting, just poorly explained. While he does say he went to Sawyer Beach but the audience sees him at The Bar, it is possible that Nick could have gone to Sawyer Beach first and then to The Bar. It is also feasible that he could have been lying whenever he said he was at Sawyer Beach (as he was in the novel). While there does seem to be a conflict in Nick's story, it is more a matter of an unreliable character (or, simply, poor writing) than a legitimate mistake.
