Travis identifies one Mexican unit as the, "6th Vera Cruzana Fusiliers". The Mexican army didn't use numerical or 'fusiliers' in unit identities like European armies did. Their units were identified first as Permanente or Activo, the former for Regular Army and the latter for militia. The unit was named for the garrison's location. The Permanente Matamoros Battalion was a regular army battalion from Matamoros. The Activo Toluca Battalion was a militia battalion from Toluca, outside Mexico City. Also, there was no unit from Vera Cruz at the Alamo.
