When Kirk convinces Pike and Spock that they are heading into a trap as they warp towards Vulcan, Kirk refers to '47 Klingon Warbirds destroyed by Romulans.' Though "Warbirds" are usually Romulan vessels within the Star Trek canon, the same name has been used for Klingon vessels even in the original timeline, e.g. in Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan.
