The straw that makes up the witch's broom is mostly long and very flexible or limp throughout most of the movie. However, towards the end when she lights the end of her broom to set Scarecrow on fire, the straw is suddenly shorter and a lot stiffer than it was before. Also when Dorothy takes the broom to present to the Wizard, there is no sign of burnt remains, just very short and rigid straw.
