The number Al rips off one of the pole ads is of an 805 area code. This would be the area code of San Luis Obispo, California, the home of Al's alma mater, California Polytechnic University. However, the movie does not say he was at college at this time (or ever) and the flyover of the landscape just before showing him as a young adult for the first time is Santa Cruz, rather than San Luis Obispo. Furthermore, in case some people think it could be the cell phone of the band member or manager placing the ad, cell phones were almost nonexistent at this time, and those that were around were owned by wealthy people and often operated as satellite phones. Further still, cell phones in the early days often never worked outside their local calling area, so a cell phone from the 805 area code likely wouldn't work outside that area anyways.
