The first victim had her face exposed to extremely high pressure steam from a distance of about 2 feet. Lincoln Rhyme asked Amelia Donaghy to cut the victim's hands off to remove the handcuffs. However, with the amount of energy expended by the steam, there is no way any flesh would have been left on her bones; including her arms and hands. Therefore, the handcuffs would be easy to remove. In fact, they most likely would have fallen off of her bones. No saw would be necessary. This is clearly a mistake.
