The dramatic sequence of Jordan Belfort being under big time-pressure to get to Geneva because aunt Emma died, doesn't make any sense whatsoever. We clearly see, that the yacht is in Portofino, near Genua, Italy. It would only take about 8 hours by train to get to Geneva from there. It would be even faster with a car. Instead Belfort decides, that it would be best, if they go to Monaco with his yacht, which is about 150 km away in the wrong direction, in spite of a heavy storm being announced ? This is just as ridiculous as the argument, that he wouldn't get into border checks, if he went to Monaco, because Geneva is in Switzerland and therefore border-checks would still be possible. There is also no character-based excuse for these failures in logic, because Belfort didn't take drugs when he made this decision, which also no captain in the world would have supported, because it's nonsense.
