The character played by Ryan Reynolds claims that the pyramid's interior was scanned by LIDAR. LIDAR bounces laser light off objects to find distances; it cannot penetrate stone. What he was probably referring to was using LIDAR to find new hidden passages in the tombs, which is something that has been used to do so in the real life Egyptian pyramids.
