The plot focuses on Mr Banks's becoming more sympathetic to his children and spending time with them. However, Mrs Banks, though she talks about the children in a more sympathetic way, is also neglectful. The scene in which she tries to hand over child-minding to the maid, the cook, and the chimney sweep, while being grossly oblivious of the fact that she should be doing it, is actually painful. At the end of the movie, she goes off to the park with the children and a new, lovingly paternal Mr Banks, but there is no indication that her feelings have changed, that she wants to spend time with the children thereafter.
