Many seemingly continuity errors such as background items disappearing and reappearing, doors opening the wrong way, objects moving around, etc. are very well deliberate. With an iq of 200, it is likely Kubrick planted these seeming errors as a means to disorient the viewer, often on a subliminal level - as with the layout of the Overlook itself. Remember, this is a haunted hotel, with little reason to 'play by the rules'.
