The Black Knights were scrambled from El Toro, a Marine Corps facility near Irvine, CA. Yet when Capt. Hiller crashes, he would have had to be near Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada (where Area 51 is located), some 250-300 miles away. Both Nellis and Edwards Air Force Bases are closer and would have have scrambled fighters which do not appear in the fight scene.
