No one ever questions how Bruce Wayne was able to overcome Two-Face's thugs at the circus. However, in some continuities, including Batman, Bruce Wayne is shown to be a competent fighter/martial artist who attends gyms/dojos/etc. It's likely that's the same case with this movie, and if so, his strength/fighting ability would be public knowledge.
