Sub-Zero freezes and destroys Jax' arms. The fall off to his side. He then pushes Jax off to the side, and the subsequent overhead shot shows the two frozen and shattered arms next to Jax, as if they broke when he landed. As they would have still remained on the upper floors, there shouldn't be any shards on the lower floor, much less perfectly placed on either side of his body as shown in the film.
