Although the hymn "Shall we Gather at the River" is an homage to John Ford's use of it in so many of his Westerns, it is inconsistent with the church woman's declaration that, "We are Presbyterians". This hymn was written by Baptist Pastor Robert Lowry, in 1864. It is extremely unlikely that a hymn that pays tribute to the Baptism of believers by submersion in a river would be sung by Presbyterians that believe in infant Baptism by sprinkling.
