During the second night of standing on the land mine, Mike is attacked by a pack of wild dogs and kills several of them. In the morning, their dead bodies are scattered around him and there are pools of blood in the sand. After being visited by the Berber for the last time, the dogs are gone but the blood is still there. Then, shortly before his rescue finally arrives, the blood also disappears. If the attack had been a hallucination, the bodies probably wouldn't have been there in the morning to begin with.
