At the big gusher/fire scene in New Boston (approx 1hr into film), Daniel Plainview abandons now-deaf H.W. to deal with the fire. He breaks the first support cable/stake with a sledge hammer and drops the hammer. Then the camera cuts to him running WITH the hammer to knock out the second stake.
