(at around 1h 19 mins) When Alexa and Scar are on the sled trying to get away from the bomb, Alexa is holding on tight with both hands. When she jumps off the sled and runs, she has the head shield on her arm, covering her hand. She wouldn't have had time to pick it up once the sled stopped.
