Ian hears the Leprechaun's laugh in the garage but later when Leprechaun is trash talking him Ian somehow doesn't hear him, where as it was established earlier he could. It's possible that taking into account Ian didn't hear the lawnmower blades and their noise that the Leprechaun's magic was so powerful it blocked out any outside noise besides Bridget.
