It is not generally possible to travel through New Orleans by car, as shown in the film, on Fat Tuesday (aka Mardi Gras Day). Parades are held on most main routes and tourism increases the city's population by tens of thousands during the Mardi Gras season, culminating on Fat Tuesday, when most businesses close due to the many thousands of people in the streets all around the city.
