When Jackson approaches the active Stargate for the first time he puts his hand into it. As the hand enters the gate it would be deconstructed for transportation immediately. As each Stargate is a one-way transport system, unless the receiving gate were exactly set to the coordinates of the earth gate, when Jackson pulls his hand out it should not be there, instead it should be on the other world.
