In the Original, it was stated that The Devil himself gave Winifred the spell book, but in this movie, it is a witch who gives it to her. However it's likely the legends about how the sisters got the book are not factual, just the same as how people believe Billy and Winnie were in a relationship despite having only kissed once as children.
