A central premise was the U-boat always going back to course 140 to reach it's scheduled rendezvous, but 140 was the course from their original location, and they were constantly maneuvering to evade the destroyer, in at least one case for about an hour. In that case, 140 would no longer be the correct heading to reach their destination.
