The landing gear of the German flying wing airplane is actually non-retractable. While plane specs with non-retractable landing gear did exist by the time the movie is set, it is very unlikely such landing gear, spoiling flight qualities of any airplane, would have been chosen for a flying wing, a design yet to be fully explored by the period.
