One of the core premises of the series, Reddington's insistence on involving Liz in his dealings with the FBI, makes no sense. To the contrary, during season four, the part of his back story where he is building a large criminal empire is explained by his desire to protect Liz. Insisting to go through her of all people with all his communications to the bureau objectively achieves the exact opposite, constantly putting her at risk.
