Verna is the Sawyer family grandmother as stated in Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013), which already causes issues with the fact that Grandma Sawyer is dead in the events of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) and there's no indication that there's another grandmother in the family. If Verna Sawyer is supposed to be the same character in all three films, then that means that she became elderly, withered, and dead in the span of 9 years before the original, as the film's events take place from 1955-1965, and Verna looks relatively young throughout the film.
