When Capt. Maine hails the stricken ship, he says, 3 times, "U.S.S. Titanic II." That 115-year-old designation, by presidential executive order in 1907, means "United States Ship" & is only for commissioned US Navy ships in active service, not for civilian vessels of any kind - unless pressed into wartime action, which has not been done for a very long time.
