At the beginning, the main priest says that the others have come from Afghanistan "to learn about The Troubles". It's a cute idea, but not something an Irish person would ever say (even as a ploy). The Troubles happened in Northern Ireland, and not in the west of Ireland. Although they are geographically close, they are two different states. It would be like saying you went to Spain to find out what life was like in Portugal.
