Elvis' makeup in this movie is wildly overdone. As can be easily seen in the comeback special, which is currently available for purchase and rental, it greatly exceeds what was used even on television. Director Baz Luhrmann clearly allowed his personal lifestyle choice to affect his interpretation of Elvis.
